Is hypnosis safe?
Yes. If there was any problem at any time, your body would naturally force you to come out of trance. There is very little that could go wrong in the hands of a professional therapist and should anything out of the ordinary occur we are trained to bring you quickly and safely out of the trance. Hypnosis is a proven method for quickly and effectively treating many issues and helps to bring health and harmony to mind, body and spirit.
What is being in trance like?
Trance will be experienced slightly differently by everyone. In general you will feel relaxed but still be aware of things going on around you. Although it is not the same as sleep, many people feel refreshed whilst others feel little difference after being in trance. Most people comment on how nice an experience it is!
Will I be in control?
Yes. You will be completely in control at all times. No one can control your mind unless you let them. The therapist is there to guide you towards the resolution of your issue and cannot make you do anything you do not want to do. Your unconscious mind is there to protect you and so won't allow you to accept any suggestions that go against your ethics or morals.
Will I be able to be hypnotised?
Yes, if you choose to allow yourself to be. Just about everyone can be hypnotised. Some people are more susceptible than others, but everyone goes into natural trance states on a daily basis. Hypnosis is usually done by relaxing the client until a light trance is induced.
Could a person remain hypnotised?
No. If the trance was not terminated, you would either fall asleep and awaken naturally or simply get bored, get up and leave!
Will I be able to communicate whilst hypnotised?
Yes. Only a light trance is used for therapeutic purposes and some therapies require responses from the client.
What happens if I go to sleep and don't remember what has been said?
Some people drift off for a while then come back to hearing everything. This is not a problem: the unconscious mind hears everything that is being said. Once the hypnotherapist stops talking or counts down from 10 to 1 giving suggestions about becoming aware, you soon open your eyes.
Do you use drugs?
No, Never. Hypnosis is a natural state and does not require drugs of any sort.
Can you help with medical issues?
Yes - very often. Many problems of a physical nature, including controlling pain, respond well to hypnosis. It is imperative, however, that you consult with your doctor prior to the session.
Can you guarantee this works?
No, and don't be tempted into believing anyone who says they guarantee success. Hypnotherapy doesn't always work for everyone. For the process even to begin you have to have to trust your therapist and be committed to change. As everyone is unique, no therapist can ever guarantee their success rate. The therapist acts as a guide and shows you where to go in your mind, and you find the solutions within yourself.
How many sessions will I need?
It all depends on your issue. Modern techniques aim to get you in control as quickly as possible. As everyone is different, only you will know how many sessions you will need after the first two - the first being the history taking process and the second the intervention(s). Hypnosis empowers you quickly and effectively, unlike some other forms of therapy that can take years, and often fail to help you to be resourceful and independent as you would wish to be. The aim of the therapist is to give the control to you as quickly as possible, as she or he only knows that the therapy is working when you report that you are in control now of whatever issue you had.
