Donna GreenWhat is Hypnotherapy?

There is a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding about hypnosis. Some people think that they will be under the "power" of the hypnotist. Be reassured that no one can be hypnotised against their will. People only go into a trance as quickly and as deeply as they feel comfortable with and remain in control at all times.

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, one that you are already very familiar with. We all go in and out of trance states all day. Remember when you were driving and suddenly couldn't remember passing a certain place? That is a trance state and perfectly normal. Maybe you have been sitting quietly stroking your dog or cat, or have been absorbed in a TV programme. That too is a trance state and it can feel very relaxing.

Hypnosis can give you a feeling of deep relaxation, so you are always aware of what is happening, and can come out of the trance any time you wish. Many people report that they can recall everything that was said, or often remember later within the session.

After hypnosis most people report a feeling of complete relaxion and refreshment.

With a few exceptions, hypnotherapy can help everyone who wants to be hypnotised, and has a desire to change certain aspects of their lives.

What makes Cognitive Hypnotherapy different from other forms of Hypnotherapy?

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is totally individualised and holistic. If you visit a conventional hypnotherapist s/he will often read from a pre-prepared script: the same script that anyone else seeking assistance for the same problem will receive. The reality is that each of us 'does our problem' in a way that is truly unique to us. As a Cognitive Hypnotherapist the first session we spend together is usually taken up purely with eliciting information from you so that we can both be sure future sessions and interventions meet your vry specific needs.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy allows you to reframe problem patterns from your past and, by doing so, change the way in which you respond to an issue or a problem in the future. Clients often report that changes have benefits that extend beyond purely addressing their presenting issue. It can lead to increased overall confidence, raised levels of self-esteem and enable people to achieve things that they previously would not have considered e.g. changing jobs, increasing their social network.
